Housing Support in Japan for Foreigners

Housing support service

Housing Support in Japan for Foreigners.

Share house, homestay, or monthly apartment support for people arriving in Japan. We help you understand availability, Japanese provider communication, minimum-stay requirements, and the difference between support fees and actual housing costs.

Housing support consultation in Japan for share house homestay and monthly apartment options

Housing routes

Three common options, explained in English.

Share houses are usually the easiest first step, homestays are good for people who want a softer landing, and monthly apartments work best when you want more privacy.

Share house

Easier setup

Shared facilities, practical rules, and a good first option for workers, working holiday participants, and short-stay arrivals.

Homestay

A more supported start

A local home environment for people who want more daily-life support, cultural context, and house-rule guidance.

Monthly apartment

More privacy

A furnished private option for people who want more independence, usually with higher support and housing costs.

Important: most housing options start from a one-month stay. Even if you move out earlier, one month of rent or housing fees is usually the minimum charge.

Why use HarukaBase

More options, direct provider support, and help with Japan-based emergency contact requirements.

HarukaBase works with several partner real estate and accommodation providers, so we can check more choices and start the reservation process earlier when your dates are realistic. Some properties may decline applicants who cannot communicate in Japanese at all, but some providers may approve an application after HarukaBase explains that we can support communication when needed.

Multiple partner providersBecause we work with several partner real estate and accommodation companies, you are not limited to one provider or one room type.
Direct Japanese support for providersIf there is a problem, or if the provider is concerned because you do not speak Japanese, HarukaBase can contact them directly by phone, email, or message and support the communication.
Emergency contact supportMany housing applications require an emergency contact in Japan. For eligible applications, HarukaBase can be your Japan-side emergency contact.

Reservation timing

Start checking housing about 1 to 2 months before move-in.

The exact timing depends on the housing provider, but as a general guide, reservations usually become realistic about one to two months before your move-in date. Earlier reservations may be possible for some properties, so please contact HarukaBase once your city, arrival date, and budget are roughly decided.

Important: Rooms usually cannot be kept for a long time without moving forward. After screening, document checks, or provider confirmation, early payment may be required to secure the room.
1-2 months before

Best timing to check

Availability becomes more realistic, and we can compare share houses, homestay, or monthly apartment options.

After screening

Move quickly

Once the provider confirms conditions or approval, payment may be needed soon. Waiting too long can cause the room to be released.

Long hold not possible

Rooms cannot be held for months

Most providers cannot hold a room for many months. We help you choose the right timing instead of applying too early or too late.
